AMSTEL Surfari (via the Surfilm Festibal)
all over the coast - summer 2009
It’s the beach version of the Surfilm Festibal. It will take place during the AMSTEL Surfilm Festibal, Saturday June 13, at la Zurriola and in collaboration with the Groseko Surf Indarra; the 20 and 21 June at Liencres (Santander) with our friends from the AMSTEL Cosmic Children; and finally, the 1 and 2 August at Salinas (Asturias) during the Vans Salinas Longboard Festival.
Summer is here finally and you are surely in need of some beach games. So here is for you the AMSTEL Surfari!!
All sorts of different boards to try out (fishes, quads, widowmakers, logs…) and the long awaited comeback of the TXAMPERO, also known as planking or, from now on, Jai-alaia. Indded, it seems that it’s coming back with a vengeance… Come and give it a go and experience the pleasure of catching a wave on this thin piece of wood, the Neanderthal of our present-day surfboards along this coast. But not just that: photo exhibs, fressbee competitions, yo-yo and plenty of other stuff.
And to top it all we will give away all the surfboards among those who try them out. We will actually give everything away. Every single item. Actually, after the last stop of the AMSTEL Surfari, the VANS Salinas Longboard Festival, we want to go back home with nothing to carry. Help us out!
At night, during both the AMSTEL Cosmic Children and the VANS Salinas Longboard Festival we will be screening some short clips and movies from this year’s AMSTEL Surfilm Festibal. Come and sey hello, try out a couple of boards, lay down on the beach and enter our World’s Planking Contest of the Cantabrian Sea among other stuff while enjoying a couple of movies at night.

KatxofotoThe aim: to give due recognition to Amatriain/Agote, tow-in pioneers along Spain’s North Coast. They were the first one to surf Playa Gris, Agiti and Isla Pancha. Their searches and finds have been followed by all the media: newspapers, mags, websites, videos and Tv. They even managed to be on the spotlight in non-surfing media and the news. They were the first ones to learn how to tow-in and to pass theis knowledge on to others in our neck of woods. With Katxofoto we want to than also the hard work of the photographers who have been following them.
We are searching for the best stills since the winter 2004 until today, to show them to everyone during the AMSTEL Surfilm Festibal7 - 2009.
We know that one photo is worth a thousand words; we haven’t found any other way to thank everyone who has been following them other that awarding the best photos.
Here are the members of the Jury that has awarded the prizes. The winners will be announced on Friday June 12 at 20:30 at the Teatro Princiapl. And the 10 finalist stills will be on display during the whole AMSTEL Surfilm Festibal7 – 2009 in the hall of the Teatro Principal:
