Directed by: Sally Lundburg & Elizabeth Pepin. USA. 60 minutos

One Winter Story, which is slated to be released in February 2006, is a rare glimpse into the adrenaline-pumped, male-dominated world of big wave surfing through the eyes of Sarah Gehrhardt, a big-wave surf pioneer and scientist. This hour-long, experimentally shot film by San Francisco & Hawaiian filmmakers Sally Lundburg & Elizabeth Pepin takes viewers inside an overly hyped sport, exploring the nature of fear and desire through the experience of the first female to surf the monstrous waves at Mavericks.

One Winter Story is a personal documentary that follows Sarah from her difficult childhood filled with poverty and homelessness into adulthood where she achieves academic and athletic success. The film captures more than four years of surf sessions in the blistering wind, rain and fog on the Northern California Coast, and features spectacular surfing by both men and women, from Santa Cruz and Mavericks, to Hawaii's North Shore.

MicrophoneThree Foot Charlie . 2007
Director: Marten Persiel .
USA. 22 minutos

The truth and nothing but the truth (or almost). 1976, Coppola films Apocalypse Now at the Philippines. Kuya Ed and Pawikan were 17 years old and worked as rice collectors. They had heard that a US film crew was working on a war film in the region, but they didn’t pay much attention until the production assistant had an accident in front of their village. This accident turned them into the first Philippines to own a couple of surfboards. Three Foot Charlie tells their incredible story , their struggle through the deepest jungles and along the wildest rivers ; the search of their first waves. The documentary was filmed on the actual location used for the surfing scenes (in the middle of the famous helicopter attack with Wagner as the soundtrack) and it includes interviews with Coppola’s military advisor for Apocalypse Now, surfing legend and pioneer Kuya Ed, and  F.F. Coppola himself.

MicrophoneInvasion from planet C . 2007
Director : David M Potter,
USA 90 minutes.

“It’s easy to forget these days, but at the core of the surfing experience is a proud past of counter-culture antics and hilarious prankster precedent. Long before surfboards started being shaped by uncalloused hands in landlocked Asian factories and the “surf-style” became a fashionable way to dress for just about everybody this side of Paris, there was a tradition of good, clean, laugh-out-loud fun that began in the water and carried over seamlessly to the shore with stink bombs in movie theatres, parking lot hijinks, and radical Vietnam draft evasions. It’s not that the colourful characters responsible for these acts have faded, it’s just that they have become watered down by the cult of cool that currently hordes our beaches and surf shops.

Luckily, from the distant reaches of the universe, a savior has arrived. It’s called Invasion! From Planet C, the world’s first-ever sci-fi surf film which premieres this Saturday at Victoria Hall Theater. Complete with laser-toting trolls, spaceships, puppets, aluminum foil-covered control panels, and perfect peeling empty point breaks from all over the world, this feature-length film is a wicked ride of satire and smooth surfing”.
