The Nias Theory

Dir: Igor Bellido. Basque Country. 2011.22`36``.

"My latest work was shot on a small island, on the north of Sumatra in Indonesia.

We were shooting during 3 weeks of March with Alex Gironi and Igor Muniain. This film is a mixture of sensations we experienced during the trip and fixed into a screenplay wich was written before.

We did a hard work with the introduction with after effects. We spent many nights cutting and fixing pictures into 3D with particle systems, cameras, floodlights, etc ....

The second part is an attempt to get my freaky ideas into the film. The stories of black magic in Nias led me to imagine a place surrounded by mystery and a dark sensation of presence on the island. Its shadow is the dark side, that part of us that keeps us from happiness and brings us into the void. That part of us that even awake, is still there.

The third and fifth section are the same but divided in two. This is what surfers live when we travel. The whole odisey to get to the best waves in the world. It's 100% adrenaline, something that can´t be explained but that makes us feel more alive than ever.

The fourth section of the film its about a journey to a magical place full of faces and different situations from an ancient culture that remains untouched by time.

The sixth part, is what every good video needs, something that makes us laugh, feel and live.

The seventh and last, is a reflection of our unhappiness even if we have it all, and why people having nothing show us a inusual strength and a smile that fills our soul endlessly.

Surely people won´t have 23 minutes to spend watching this film but to the brave they will, I expect them to get an idea of what does travelling and feelling sensations ever experienced means. "Igor Bellido.
