Brother

Arguably one of the best approaches in pure surfing & having been named surfer of the year by Surfer Magazine in 1999, Bruce Irons, will always be one of the finest anti-heroes of a generation.

“When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.” — Haruki Murakami, Kafka on the Shore

Arguably one of the best approaches in pure surfing & having been named surfer of the year by Surfer Magazine in 1999, Bruce Irons, will always be one of the finest anti-heroes of a generation. Known for leading a rock star life and surfing the most engaged waves in the world, Bruce was born just 16 months after Andy, his brother and 3 time world surf champion. It’s defined his life, his surfing and his future. A love / hate competitive relationship that ended in November 2010 when Andy Irons fatefully died of drug-related heart failure in a Dallas hotel room. In overcoming such a tragedy, Bruce has never been the same since, dealing with memories, inner demons, and the pressures of his sponsors.

Director Sebastien Zanella presents Brother, a thoughtful portrait of one of the greatest surfers of all time. In an unprecedented interview, Bruce shares his souvenirs and what led him to overcome his demons and elevate himself back into the light.
