BRAZIL STORM!
Brazil is one of the surfing world powers these days. The new breed of riders headed by Gabriel Medina is almost taking over the professional surfing scene. As Julio Adler (Brazilian ex pro) states on a recent interview, “our heroes are no longer foreigners”. Brazil has a huge surfer population; it has its own national heroes, its own media, a unique take on surfing and way to enjoy it. A unique world of its own. Many of you may have a negative image of aggro surfers, fighting in goups for every wave in Indo or South America. But deep inside, we don’t know each other that well, we don’t know their surf culture really, leaving clichés aside. Our aim is to present a small slice of their world, thanks to the work of Thomaz Sellins, a Brazilian surfer who spends long periods in Hossegor, a good friend of Surfilmfestibal and promoter of many fabulous screenings with his project Jamur Video. This is his selection, and this is what we can tell you about this wonderful country and its surf, in barely 90 minutes.

SURF VOYAGE
The Endless Summer was the first title to present the surf trip experience in search for the perfect wave. This search is a key element in a surfers dream. In this session we see two ways of travelling, of searching. Gauchos del Mar is a delicious tape, honest, captivating through its simplicity. It’s the story of two Argentinean brothers who travel from L.A. to their hometown, Buenos Aires. It is a raging DIY example: how to tell a good story with a tiny budget but great sensitivity, because 13 months travelling down the coast is enough time for a lot of stories, for sure. Eremita Stew is cinema, an elaborated documentary film. It sounds familiar, it speaks about universal truths that all surfers share: how surfing helps building friendship that lasts a lifetime, and why we are curious beings, hungry for adventure.

LOCAL WARMING!
Presented by SURFEUROPE Here we go, the most punk session in the festival! A true celebration of our surf, of local surfing. This is the time where we all get together, we have a laugh, we get amped, we see the yearly evolution of local productions, of our surfing. This year we have a few jewels: complete punk-style fiction, a shivering story about the troublesome life of El Pecas, perfect point breaks in China, intersexxyon with our most radical surfers, Kepa and his –already- universal stories, Aritz and some of the best waves of the past few years. And last but not least, a close look to Gros: the past, the transformation and the current reality. Thanks to all the locals for making some of our realities visible to others.
