Adventure No 11

MOCKUMENTARY

Travelling is about packing your bag, grabbing your boards and heading far, to sink into a culture and rediscover magic spots; but most of all, it’s about going far away.

Nooo! that’s crap! Travelling means rediscovering, no matter where, and that’s exactly what Kepa Acero and Surfilmfestibal do on their latest madness called “Adventure No 11”. A mockumentary to claim the classic venues where Surfilmfestibal will host its insane events. This will be our look for this edition: red beanies!

A steamboat, a desert island, the most impressive marine fauna, the perfect wave…We hop around Donosti and the surrounding region on a metaphoric trip whose main character is Kepa, an antihero. Kepa is our own particular Steve Zissou, adventurer of the year and an old friend of Surfilmfestibal since its origins, he embarks on a trip, an exotic one too, heading home in search of a new wave.

The only new thing is how we approach it. We’re living times of change and transition, and we reinvent ourselves. We’ve programmed more events during the whole summer, in partnership with other collectives who also work around the ocean; new exhibitions, cultural spaces and workshops. Heaps of music, good films and short-film, which are already set in our program. We’ll be announcing it all on May 30th! Stay tuned!

Adventure No 11”, is a clear nod to Life Aquatic. It was filmed at Ondartxo shipyard, in Pasajes, Aquarium in San Sebastian, Santa Clara Island and Zurriola beach, with an outstanding team: Kepa Acero, the expedition Captain, and Unai Azkune “Pichu” , his inseparable mate, who signs and plays a Basque version of David Bowie’s Life on Mars. It was the most insane and ridiculous filming the festival has ever been part of, and from there stems the official image of Surfilmfestibal 11, designed by Borja Garmendia, with photography by Roke and Marc Gassó.
