Surfin in Japan

Jeff Flindt

Super Typhoon Ioke on Sept 6th 2006 was the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Central Pacific. The first storm to form in the Central Pacific in the 2006 Pacific hurricane season, Ioke was a record breaking, long-lived and extremely powerful storm that traversed the Pacific for 19 days, reaching the equivalent of Category 5 status on the Hurricane Scale. Mikala Jones, Kohei Chiba, Pat O’connoll, Shuji Kasuya, chased the swell to the Osaka area and caught some of the best waves Japan has ever seen.

Also in the exhibit are photos from Super Typhoon Choi-wan on Sept 19th, 2009 with winds at 260km/h. Ian Walsh, Cory Lopez, Tanner Gudauskas, and Kohei Chiba. Went back to surf in Osaka area.

Jeff Flindt is one of the best water photographers in the World. He is senior photographer at Surfing Magazine, and we’ve seen him around San Sebastián quite a few times lately. He lives in Sweden.
